How to resize a photo to exact pixels
Pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and upload quality explained in practical terms.
Find the dimensions in your form
Start with the application or website instructions. Note exact width and height in pixels, not just a required file size. A 200 by 230 pixel photograph is different from a 200 KB photograph.
Resize with the correct proportions
Use Maintain aspect ratio to avoid stretching whenever possible. If an application specifies a different shape, crop the image intentionally rather than distorting faces or text. Resizing larger than the source does not restore lost detail.
Export and verify the file
Export JPG for typical photo uploads or PNG when the portal permits it and transparency matters. Check both the new dimensions and the actual byte size before submitting.
